お雪は
とても、よい嫁でした。

O-Yuki proved a very good daughter-in-law.
みのきちの母は、
五年ほどの後に亡くなりましたが
その時
彼女をとても褒めました。
（褒める：to praise）
When Minokichi's mother came to die, - some five years later, - her last words were words of affection and praise for the wife of her son.
お雪には、
男の子、女の子、
十人の子供が、生まれました。
And O-Yuki bore Minokichi ten children, boys and girls,
みんな、
とても、かわいい子供でした。
- handsome children all of them,
そして、
色が、とても白かったのです。
and very fair of skin.
村の人々は
お雪を
自分たちとは違う
不思議な人だ
と思いました。
（不思議な：mysterious; strange）
The country-folk thought O-Yuki a wonderful person, by nature different from themselves.
多くの農家の女は
早く年を取ります。
（農家：peasant）
（年を取る：to age）
Most of the peasant-women age early;
しかし、お雪は
十人の子供の母となったあとでも
初めて村へ来た日と同じように
若く見えました。
but O-Yuki, even after having become the mother of ten children, looked as young and fresh as on the day when she had first come to the village.
