朝あさになると

吹雪ふぶきは止やみました。

By dawn the storm was over;

日ひが出でると、やがて

船頭せんどうが

小屋こやに戻もどって来きました。

（戻もどって来くる：to return）

and when the ferryman returned to his station, a little after sunrise,

そして

凍こおった、もさくの死体したいと

倒たおれている、みのきちを

見みつけました。

（死体したい：dead body）

（倒たおれている：to be lying）

（見みつける：to find）

he found Minokichi lying senseless beside the frozen body of Mosaku.

まもなく、

みのきちの意識いしきは

戻もどりました。

（意識いしき：consciousness）

Minokichi was promptly cared for, and soon came to himself;

しかし、彼かれは

その恐おそろしい夜よるのせいで

長ながい間あいだ、

起おき上あがることができずに、寝ねたままでした。

but he remained a long time ill from the effects of the cold of that terrible night.

もさくの死しんだことが

とても怖こわかったのです。

He had been greatly frightened also by the old man's death;

しかし、彼かれは

小屋こやで女おんなを見みたことについて

何なにも

言いいませんでした。

but he said nothing about the vision of the woman in white.

また、元気げんきになると

すぐに、彼かれは

仕事しごとに始はじめました。

（元気げんきになる：to get well）

As soon as he got well again, he returned to his calling,

毎朝まいあさ

ひとりで森もりへ行いき

夕方ゆうがた

切きった木きをたくさん持もって

帰かえって来きました。

（ひとりで：alone）

going alone every morning to the forest, and coming back at nightfall with his bundles of wood,

そして

母ははに手伝てつだってもらいながら、

それを売うりました。

（手伝てつだう：to help）

which his mother helped him to sell.
